FCHS seniors chosen for All-Virginia Chorus

Monday, June 3, 2013

Franklin County High School seniors Brittany MacPherson, Rebecca Haynes and Avie Pagans have each been chosen to represent District VI at the 2013 All-Virginia Chorus.

The students performed in the chorus in Richmond on April 27.

"These students are amazing," said Choir Director Kathy Carter. "They are so talented and will definitely be leaders wherever they go."

Students auditioned for judges individually, singing "Danny Boy," Carter said. And they each had to sight-read eight measures of challenging music.

MacPherson, Haynes and Pagans have each made All-District Chorus for the past four years and were "extremely excited about making the All-State Chorus," said Carter.

"The opportunity to be a part of the All-State Choir was an unforgettable experience that I will cherish forever," said MacPherson, who plans to major in music therapy at Radford University.

Haynes plans to attend Virginia Western Community College (VWCC) before transferring to Radford University to study music education.

"All-State Chorus was an enriching experience that allowed me to grow as a musician," said Haynes.

Pagans will attend VWCC as well, before transferring to Jefferson College of Health Sciences to pursue a career in nursing, she said.

"I really enjoyed myself and the choir sounded fantastic," said Pagans.

Senior Kaitlin Wray and junior Amanda Carter were both chosen as alternates to the All-State Chorus.

Wray, who has made All-District Chorus for three years and All-State Chorus last year, said she will attend VWCC before transferring to the University of Virginia, where she will major in psychology.

Amanda Carter has been chosen for All-District Chorus for the past three years and will start her senior year at FCHS next year.
