Glade Hill Elementary Pre-K teacher Brenda Strickland says writing has been one of her greatest passions.
Strickland has recently published her eighth teaching instruction manual, "All About Me."
"When I first started teaching, I realized I didn't have the materials I needed," she said.
That is when she created the first of eight manuals, designed to supplement the SOLs and help teachers in the classroom.
The manuals include craft ideas, worksheets on important topics and instructional ideas. One series even includes an instructional CD.
"I am constantly looking for creative ideas and teaching methods in the classroom that provide tools for teachers to use in their classroom and parents to use with their children at home," said Strickland.
Franklin County's 2002-2003 Teacher of the Year, Strickland has taught for 32 years, 22 of them in Franklin County. She currently resides in Penhook.
She says her "passion for teaching and educating children has made authoring these books pure joy."
Strickland's teaching manuals are published by Teacher Created Resources and can be ordered from the publisher at www.teachercreated.com.
"Education is rapidly changing, and the way we approach teaching has evolved over the years," said Strickland. "I feel privileged to now have my publisher reach out to me and request that my knowledge and experience now be focused on a specific topic need. It is with great pleasure and pride that I can now write this book that responds to this identified need."
