Bart Matthies and Bill Daly are co-chairs of the second annual Jim Cameron Memorial Walk, benefiting Lake Christian Ministries.
The second annual Jim Cameron Memorial Walk, benefiting Lake Christian Ministries in Moneta, will be held Saturday, Sept. 21 at Smith Mountain Lake State Park.
Bart Matthies and Bill Daly have been named co-chairs of this year's event. Chris Cameron will again serve as honorary chairman in tribute to her late husband.
Jim Cameron, LCM's executive director from 2003 -- 2010, was known for his tireless efforts managing the operations of the ministry, as well as his passionate dedication to helping those in need.
Last year, 339 participants helped raise over $27,000 in pledges, an amount organizers are hoping to exceed this year.
At a recent planning meeting, committee members announced the receipt of an anonymous $10,000 donation.
"This extremely generous donation will cover all our expenses, with several thousand dollars going to LCM client service areas," Matthies said. "It also means all subsequent pledges and other sponsorships will now go 100 percent to LCM."
Several teams have already started the sign-up process, Matthies said. Individuals are also encouraged to participate.
"Walk teams make this event the best ever," Daly said. "Match your company against another, one civic group verses another, one neighborhood challenging another, all to make it fun!"
