Gina Haley Kennett of Rocky Mount has announced her intention to seek election to the Franklin County School Board member-at-large seat this November.

Kennett is the manager of the Rocky Mount Branch of Member One Federal Credit Union, where she has worked for 20 years. She has a total of 30 years experience working in financial institutions, and she said she believes this will be a vital asset in the preparation of the school budget.

Kennett earned an associate's degree in management banking and finance from Virginia Western Community College, bachelor's degree in business management from Liberty University and is currently pursuing a master's degree in management and leadership at Liberty.

Kennett, her husband, Ronnie, and son, Bradley, are all Franklin County natives and graduates of Franklin County High School.

Kennett has served as vice president of the Rocky Mount Lions Club and has been secretary for the Franklin County Sandlot Football Association and the Franklin County Football Club for over 12 years.

She has also served as president and secretary of Lee M. Waid PTO, a volunteer at Lee M Waid, a lunch buddy at Rocky Mount Elementary and has taught financial literacy in the classroom. She has been involved for many years with youth sports.

Kennett said she believes in a quality education and has a lifetime commitment toward helping youth find financial success.

The more students are involved in athletics, clubs or extra-curricular activities, the more committed they are to their education, she said.

Kennett also serves as a member of the Williamson Road Area Business Association, Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce and president of the Roanoke Valley Chapter of the Virginia Credit Union League.
