The Blue Knights of Franklin County will sponsor its second annual Poker Run to benefit the Southern Virginia Child Advocacy Center (CAC) on Saturday, May 18.
"Beat the Odds, Not Children" is the theme for this year's event.
During the motorcycle ride, each rider will draw a card at each stopping point along the designated route, culminating to a final drawing and cash prize for the best hand at the last stop.
"Being involved in this event is one way to actively make a difference in preventing child abuse in our community," said Joyce Moran, executive officer of the CAC. "We were thrilled to be selected as a recipient of the Blue Knight's hard work."
The first poker run to support the child advocacy center in the fall of 2012 brought in 41 riders to support the cause.
"The first ride was exceptionally well attended, and we hope to double that number this year," Moran said.
This year's route will take riders through the back roads of Ferrum and Callaway, finishing at the registration station at the picnic shelter at the Franklin County Recreation Park on Route 619.
The registration fee is $20 and includes a t-shirt and lunch. Door prizes and a 50/50 raffle will also be part of this year's event. Kickstands up at 10:30 a.m.
