Franklin Community Bank will once again sponsor this Saturday's Chug for the Jug 5K race.
This year, though, the race will be without one of its most avid supporters, Larry Heaton, the bank's former president who was killed in a traffic accident in December 2012.
The race will be held this year in memory of Heaton, who was a runner, outdoorsman and promoter of physical fitness.
Paul Chapman, the county's director of parks and recreation, which is organizing the event, said registration is already up, with more than 220 registered earlier this week.
Participants can also register Saturday morning, starting at 7:30 a.m. at the farmers' market in Downtown Rocky Mount.
The 3.1-mile race, which takes runners through Rocky Mount, takes the starter's gun at 9 a.m. at the farmers' market.
The Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital Health Walk Challenge and the Franklin County Department of Parks and Recreation Kids' Fun Run will be held in conjunction with the Chug for the Jug 5K.
The fun run begins at 8:30 a.m. and the health walk starts at 9 a.m.
Race packets can be picked up at the recreation department office today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
