A Rocky Mount man will serve 13 years and six months in prison for statutory rape.
Michael Kevin Brown, 36, pleaded guilty in February to one count of rape of a 12-year-old girl and one count of object sexual penetration.
Brown was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years on each felony count with six years and six months suspended, according to Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Patrick Nix.
Brown was also sentenced to five years probation and ordered to be of good behavior for life, Nix said. Brown was ordered to complete a sex offender program in prison and have no unsupervised contact with minors, including his own children.
Brown must also register as a sex offender when he is released from prison, Nix said.
Brown told the court that he fell "in love" with the 12-year-old girl and the situation just "went too far" on the night of Sept. 30, 2012, Nix said. The incident occurred at Brown's residence.
