SATURDAY, APRIL 20

The Friends of Booker T. Washington National Monument will celebrate Dr. Washington's 157th birthday with the second annual Legacy Birthday Dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. at Trinity Ecumenical Church. Guest speaker will be Dr. James A. Holmes, the only principal of Booker T. Washington Elementary School and the first African American national park ranger.

An NRA basic pistol safety course will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the W.E. Skelton 4-H Center. Cost is $100 and includes lunch. For more information, call 540-400-1070.

Booker T. Washington National Monument will have an Earth Day program for children ages 3 to 9 at 11 a.m.

Diane Cannaday will teach a course on floral design and arrangements from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Skelton 4-H Center. Registration fee of $25 includes all instruction, materials and lunch. To register, contact Dennis Crowley at 721-2759, ext. 264.

MONDAY, APRIL 22

TUESDAY, APRIL 23

A basic culinary herb gardening class will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Westlake Public Library. To register, all the Carilion Clinic at 540-266-6000

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 24

The 15th annual card party/fundraiser for Carilion Hospice of Franklin County will be held at Water's Edge from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $25 and includes luncheon and door prize. A 50/50 drawing and silent auction available. For tickets, call 489-6503.

FRIDAY, APRIL 26

A program on improving the care for veterans facing illness and death will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church. Registration is at 8 a.m. RSVP by calling Rev. Mark Flores at 540-587-6592.

The Franklin County/ SML Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association will be involved in the Take Pride in SML Lake Cleanup at the Gills Creek Marina drop site from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

TUESDAY, MAY 7

The Franklin County/ SML Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association will hold the 7th annual wine tasting fundraiser at the Blackwater Cafe at 7 p.m. This event raises money for scholarships. Tickets are $30 each.

TUESDAY, MAY 14
