Ryan Aylesworth

Monday, March 4, 2013

Audubon International Executive Director Ryan Aylesworth will give a talk at Ferrum College on the role played by Audubon International in advancing sustainable development on Tuesday, March 5.

Aylesworth will share details about his own education and career path, as well as career opportunities within the organization, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Garber Hall auditorium.

As a not-for-profit organization, Audubon International (AI) uses environmental education and sustainability certification to help deliver effective natural resource management where people live, work and play.

One of the most significant AI contributions to sustainable development is its Sustainable Community Program, which offers communities valuable planning processes and the opportunity to achieve certification, a valuable asset for economic development and for attracting progressive companies looking to balance social, economic and environmental concerns.

As executive director, Aylesworth is responsible for supervising and guiding the overall operation of AI, including the management, growth and development of all programs and activities. He holds a master's degree public policy and administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a bachelor's degree in natural resources from Cornell University. Prior to joining AI, Aylesworth served for three years as the Intergovernmental Affairs Liaison for the Midwest Region of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Aylesworth is currently a Ph.D. candidate, who is researching the nexus of environmental, sociopolitical and institutional systems at the University of Minnesota. Aylesworth is the son of Ferrum College Professor Chris Aylesworth.
