Franklin County senior Charmaine Hairston has been selected Player of the Year in girls' basketball in the Group AAA Western Valley District for the second year in a row in a recent vote of the league's head coaches.

Hairston and teammates Zarkia Mattox, a junior, and Miranda Crockett, a sophomore, each received first team all-league accolades.

All three played instrumental roles in the Eagles' 17-7 campaign which culminated with FCHS's sixth consecutive Northwest Region tournament appearance and its 10th in 11 years.

As first-team players, Hairston, Mattox and Crockett are eligible for All-Northwest Region laurels.

Head coach Anne Crutchfield, who secured her 100th coaching victory at FCHS this season, has been chosen WVD Coach of the Year. It marks the second time that she has been cited by her league coaching peers.

Hairston finishes her FCHS career ranked second in scoring in girls' basketball with 1,243 points and she owns the school's single-game scoring record -- 39 points netted in a 2012 regular-season loss to William Fleming.

A 2012-13 McDonald's All-America nominee, Hairston is the third FCHS player to earn the WVD's top individual accolade. Former Eagles standouts P.J. Wade (2006) and Shea Smith (2009) are the others.

Also named to the first team are Ryjae Anderson, KeAshe Haynes and Desiree Keeling of two-time district champion William Fleming and Jewell Profitt of Patrick Henry.

Named to the second team from FCHS are senior Brianna Taylor and junior Destani Mitchell.

Junior Daishi Dudley is one of 10 players who received an honorable mention citation.

ALL-WVD BOYS: FCHS junior forward Josh Blankenship has garnered first team All-WVD accolades in voting by the league's head coaches.

Joining Blankenship on the first team are Ahmad Thomas, Keenma Jones and Jarod Williams of district champion George Washington-Danville, Adrian Dungee of William Fleming and Marcus Banks and Austin Donithan of Patrick Henry.

Thomas is the Player of the Year and first-year Danville bench boss Thomas Carr is the Coach of the Year.

Blankenship is eligible for All-Northwest Region honors.

FCHS senior Ray Witcher is a second-team choice and junior Ethan Adams has earned honorable mention recognition.
