The preliminary investigation into an apparent murder-suicide indicates that an altercation in which the victim was shot at least once began at a dumpster site on Museville Road in Pittsylvania County, according to Lt. Todd Maxey.
The bodies of the victim, Karen Swanson Yee, 48, and her husband, Kim Bryan Yee, 56, were found inside a sport utility vehicle parked on the side of Ramsey Memorial Road in Penhook Tuesday afternoon.
Karen Yee was shot at least three times, Maxey said. She was found in the passenger seat of the SUV. Her body had been covered.
Kim Yee was found in the driver's seat with a single gunshot wound, Maxey said. A 9 mm handgun was found in his lap.
Evidence suggests the initial altercation occurred at the dumpster site between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday, about 24 hours before the bodies were found, Maxey said.
The couple's Jeep Grand Cherokee was seen by a motorist Monday night on the side of Ramsey Memorial Road with its flashers blinking, Maxey said. The motorist called the sheriff's office when she spotted the vehicle in the same spot just before 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The Yees operated the Penhook Boat Dock at Smith Mountain Lake.
