FRIDAY, FEB. 22

Friends of the SML/Moneta Library will present a reading by Bob VandeLinde from his book "Korea: Why we were there; What we were fighting for" from 7 to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

MONDAY, FEB. 25

FRIDAY, MAR. 1

Resurrection Catholic Church with support from Trinity Ecumenical Parish, Patmos UMC, and Bethlehem UMC will host The World Day of Prayer at 10 a.m. in the worship area. Refreshments will be served after the service.

The Friends of Smith Mountain Lake State Park will present a lecture on "Gardening for Birds including a Pictorial Diary of the Winged Creatures that have come to Visit the Garden" with Bill Leaning, a nature photographer, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Discovery Center. TUESDAY, MAR. 5

The annual SMLA Town Hall Meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at Trinity Ecumenical Parish. Topics will include water release from SML, grass carp introduction, and SML program updates.

A breast cancer support group will meet at the Smith Mountain Lake YMCA. Andrea Fansler will give a class on yoga.

The Moneta Garden Club will hold its annual fashion show and luncheon at noon at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Tickets are $20. For tickets, call Marty Bowers at 297-0965.

The Friends of Booker T. Washington National Monument will hold its annual membership meeting at 10 a.m. at the visitor center. Guest speaker will be John D. Long, the director of the Salem Museum and senior lecturer in history at Roanoke College.

The Friends of Smith Mountain Lake State Park will present a lecture on "Hunter's Raid: The Failure to Take Lynchburg" with Ron Coleman, a historian, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Discovery Center. For more information, call 540-297-6066.

SATURDAY, APR. 20

The Friends of Booker T. Washington National Monument will celebrate Dr. Washington's 157th birthday with the second annual Legacy Birthday Dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. at Trinity Ecumenical Church. Guest speaker will be Dr. James A. Holmes, the only principal of Booker T. Washington Elementary School and the first African American national park ranger.
