In preparation for the 23rd annual Smith Mountain Lake Charity Home Tour, sponsors are being sought with several businesses already signing on.
The home tour, which raises funds annually for selected charities in the area, will be held on Columbus Day weekend, Oct. 11-13.
Businesses and others who wish to sign up as sponsors should visit www.smlcharityhometour.com.
Eight homes selected for this year's tour will be announced in March.
Participating charities that will split equally funds from the home tour are the Agape Center, Bedford Pregnancy Center, CASA of Central Virginia, Feed America--SWVA, Free Clinic of Franklin County, Lake Christian Ministries and Smith Mountain Lake Good Neighbors.
One additional charity -- STEP Inc. -- was selected as an alternate, eligible to participate if for any reason one the primary charities elects not to participate.
Tour officials used a committee evaluation selection process, replacing the lottery used in the past couple of years, to select the charities.
To be considered, charities had to submit detailed applications that demonstrate sound financial management and delivery of important services to needy families of the communities surrounding Smith Mountain Lake.
Over the past 22 years, the Smith Mountain Lake Home Tour has generated over $3.5 million for local charities.
