A Rocky Mount man will serve two months in jail for assaulting a teenage girl.
John Richard Arant, 26, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and battery Friday in Franklin County Circuit Court.
The judge sentenced Arant to 12 months in jail but suspended 10 months.
Arant was originally charged with the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl, but the charge was amended to assault and battery, according to court records.
The charge alleged that Arant fondled the girl's breasts through her clothing on Aug. 8, 2012, while the girl was staying at her aunt's home.
In addition to serving two months in jail, Arant was ordered to have no contact with the girl and be of good behavior for two years.
Arant was also ordered to obtain a full-time job within 90 days of his release from jail.
