ROANOKE -- William Fleming jumped out to a 14-point first-quarter lead en route to a 21-point, 58-37 Western Valley District boys' junior varsity basketball triumph over Franklin County Tuesday.
The Colonels' victory is their second this season over the Eagles (1-5 in the WVD, 10-8 overall), which suffered its third straight loss.
William Fleming led 24-10 after the first quarter. Each team scored 10 points in the second period.
Leading 34-20, the Colonels won the third stanza 16-10 to push the spread to 20 points, 50-30, heading into the final period.
William Fleming completed the victory by taking the fourth quarter 8-7.
Steve Jones led the Colonels with 14 points.
Also scoring were Jamaie Hale with nine points, Ja'land Robinson with seven, Tyrell Adams and D'Sean Adams each with six, Noel Hibbert with five, Jaleyn Ward with four, Michael Hall with three, Jayquan Andrews and Damoni Wallace each with two and Savian Stone and Kyshawn Wilson each with one.
Tyrik Williamson led FCHS with eight points.
Also scoring were Zach Clayborne and Nick Robertson each with six points, Zedric Barnett and Nick Martin with four, C.J. Gravely with three and Tyler Bennett, Rasmo Guadarrama and Malik Harris each with two.
FCHS returns to action today against league rival Halifax County. Tip off at Samuel M. Hawkins-Central Gymnasium is 6 p.m.
