A bill that establishes a special one-time registration fee for antique motor boats, 30 years or older, has been introduced in the General Assembly by Ninth District Del. Charles Poindexter (R-Union Hall).
The bill, HB 1954, sets the one-time fee at $100. Registrations would have to be renewed every three years at no additional cost.
The bill also provides that an antique motorboat identification plate, issued by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries that displays the identification number and language designating the vessel as an antique motorboat, would replace the requirement of having identification numbers painted on the bow of the motor boat.
The certificate and plate would be valid as long as the motorboat exists and ownership does not change. The certificate of number would be pocket-sized and should be available for inspection on the antique motorboat whenever such motorboat is in operation.
Poindexter has also introduced a bill that would authorize the issuance of special license plates celebrating Smith Mountain Lake.
