PENHOOK -- Last June's Swing Fore A Cure golf tournament at The Water's Edge Golf Club raised more than $490,000 for the American Cancer Society and was named the largest golf fundraising event in the country.
The one-day event's featured guest was Hank Haney, the former coach of PGA tour professional Tiger Woods.
Advance Auto Parts is the presenting sponsor of the event, which began in 2008.
In past years, professional golfers Kenny Perry and Shaun Micheel, a past winner of the PGA Championship, have been the special guests of the tournament played at the Smith Mountain Lake facility.
The 2013 event is set for Monday, June 3 at The Water's Edge and will feature PGA Tour legend and Hall of Famer Tom Watson, a winner of eight major championships and 39 tour events.
In 2009, at age 59, Watson came to the 18th hole of the British Open needing a par to win, but made a bogey on the hole and lost the tournament in a playoff.
Watson's golf duels with Jack Nicklaus throughout the 1970s are recalled as some of the game's greatest encounters.
In the first five years, the Swing Fore A Cure tournament at SML has raised more than $1.5 million.
