Wrestlers place 4th at Virginia Duals

HAMPTON -- Franklin County's varsity wrestling team finished fourth in the American Division of the 33rd annual Virginia Duals at the Hampton Coliseum with a 3-2 record.

The Eagles (19-3 dual match record) lost to Group AAA rival Great Bridge, 41-14, in the consolation finals.

FCHS won its first two matches: 65-9 over Millbrook and 33-32 over St. Mark's (Del). before falling to eventual division winner Lexington (S.C.) 35-21 in the semifinals.

In the consolation semifinals, the Eagles bested long-time rival Brookville 45-25.

FCHS was competing in the Virginia Duals for the third straight year.

In the 2011 and 2012 events, the Eagles competed in the National Division and finished 1-2 and 3-2.

Ryan Clingenpeel (126 pounds) and Jeremy Lemon (152) each finished 5-0, while Justin Altice (160), Isaiah Foster and Alveno Matthews each was 4-1.

•Winning bouts for the Eagles against Millbrook were Drew Holden, Foster, Clingenpeel, Devin Jones, Jared Mills, Jarred Brown, Lemon, Justin Altice, Brock Adams, Derick Kromer, Jonathan Altice and Matthews.

Foster, Lemon, Justin Altice, Adams, Kromer, Jonathan Altice and Matthews all won by pin.

•Winning bouts against St. Mark's were Foster, Clingenpeel, Lemon, Adams, Kromer, Jonathan Altice and Matthews.

Clingenpeel, Lemon and Matthews won by pin.

•Winning bouts against Lexington were Clingenpeel, Mills, Jeremy Lemon, Justin Altice, Kromer and Matthews.

•Winning bouts against Brookville were Foster, Clingenpeel, Lemon, Justin Altice, Adams, Jonathan Altice and Matthews.

•Winning bouts against Great Bridge were Holden, Foster, Clingenpeel, Lemon and Justin Altice.
