A Rocky Mount man was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine following a raid at a residence on Edgemont Street early Sunday morning.
Robert Eli Bernard Jr., 27, is also charged with possession of chemical ingredients with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine and child abuse and neglect, according to Lt. Todd Maxey with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators executed a search warrant at the residence about 5 a.m. Sunday based on reports of suspicious activity, Maxey said.
Sheriff's investigators and Virginia State Police special agents seized equipment and chemicals used in the manufacture of methamphetamine, as well as a white powdery substance believed to be methamphetamine in a newly-constructed outbuilding and the kitchen of the residence, Maxey said.
A 9-month-old girl was present in the residence at the time of the raid, Maxey said. The child has been placed with relatives.
Bernard is being held without bond in the Western Virginia Regional Jail. |
