A 60-year-old Rocky Mount man will serve eight years of a 15-year prison sentence for the aggravated sexual battery of a child under the age of 13.
Eugene Lawrence Gnann pleaded guilty to the charge in Franklin County Circuit Court in November .
In addition to the eight years he will serve in prison, Gnann will be on probation for six years after he is released from prison. And he was ordered to be of good behavior for life.
Gnann was also ordered to have no contact with the victim, as well as other minors while unsupervised.
He must also complete a sex offender program.
Gnann had been charged with sodomy of a child, but through a plea agreement, Gnann pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of sexual battery of a child under the age of 13.
The incident leading to the arrest and charge against Gnann occurred on Nov. 8, 2011, during the nighttime at a residence in Rocky Mount, according to Tim Allen, Franklin County Commonwealth's Attorney. The victim was eight years old at the time.
The child's grandmother reported the incident to the sheriff's office on Nov. 9, 2011, after the child told her what had occurred. |
