Franklin County's junior varsity boys' basketball squad advanced to the semifinals of the Northside Invitational with a 42-point, 61-19 waxing of Brookville Thursday.
The Eagles (9-1), winners of four straight games, face William Byrd, a quarterfinal-round winner of Blacksburg, in today's 11:30 a.m. semifinal.
Lord Botetourt, which bested E.C. Glass in the quarterfinals, and Northside, which downed Liberty, play in the 10:15 a.m. semifinal.
The Eagles led 11-5 after the first quarter and 21-9 at intermission.
FCHS produced the halftime count in the third quarter to raise its lead to 24 points, 42-18.
The Eagles used a 19-1 fourth-quarter blitz to secure the victory.
Six players scored for Brookville, none of whom finished in double figures.
Tyler Bennett paced FCHS with a game-best 11 points.
Also scoring for the Eagles were Zedric Barnett with nine points, Brice Arrington, Zach Clayborne, Tyrik Williamson, Caleb Shockley and Nick Robertson each with six, Malik Harris with five, Ransmo Guadarrema with four and Nick Martin with two.
FCHS last captured the championship of the Northside Invitational in 2008.
FRESHMAN GAME: FCHS's boys' freshman team takes on Magna Vista's junior varsity squad Saturday at 2 p.m. at Samuel M. Hawkins-Central Gymnasium.
FCHS (2-6) brings a four-game losing streak into the contest, its fifth against a junior varsity opponent this season.
