A Rocky Mount man has been charged with malicious wounding in connection with a fight Monday afternoon in front of a strip mall in Martinsville.
Matthew David Davis, 27, was charged after an alleged altercation with Robert Alonzo Beal, 45, of Martinsville that stemmed from what appears to be a road rage incident between the two men, according to the Henry County Sheriff's Office.
The suspects stopped their vehicles at Mountain View Shopping Center, where a fight allegedly started between the two men, according to a press release from the sheriff's office.
During the altercation, one of the men was struck several times with an aluminum baseball bat, and the other man was subsequently shot in the upper portion of his left leg, the sheriff's office said.
One of the men was treated for a fracture to his right arm at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville and released, and the other was treated for a gunshot wound to his leg, according to the release.
Davis was jailed without bond on the felony malicious wounding charge. Beal was charged with disorderly conduct (misdemeanor) and released on a $5,000 unsecured bond, according to the sheriff's office.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact the Henry County Sheriff's Office at 276-638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 276-632-7463. |
