The Friends of Smith Mountain Lake State Park will present a lecture on "The Battles of Appomattox:The Final Fury and the Last to Die" with Patrick Shroeder, a National Park Service historian from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Discovery Center. For more information, call 540-297-6066.

An alzheimer/dementia caregiver support group will meet at 3 p.m. at Trinity Ecumenical Parish.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 9

A prostate support group will meet at 6 p.m. at Trinity Ecumenical Parish. Guest speaker will be Kim Newman from Carilion Clinic on advanced directives and durable power of attorney.

THURSDAY, JAN. 10

A diabetic forum will be held at 10 a.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church. Topics will be nutrition by T.J. Mueller (dietitian) from Carilion Clinic, complications by Rhonda Teets (diabetic nurse educator) from Carilion Clinic and medication by Lori McClure (pharmacist) from Carilion Clinic.
