FRONT ROYAL -- For the second year in a row, Franklin County's varsity wrestling team has captured the championship of the Appalachian Duals at Skyline High School.
The Eagles (8-1 in dual matches) bested Loudoun County for the championship, 56-12, Saturday.
FCHS swept Friday pool competition by routing Briar Woods, 74-3, Mountain View, 67-6, and Osbourn, 60-15.
In Saturday's quarterfinals, the Eagles whipped Kettle Run, 58-9, and dominated Woodgrove, 52-18, in the semifinals.
In Friday's victory over Mountain View, senior 126-pounder Ryan Clingenpeel notched his 100th career win.
Clingenpeel, who missed half of his junior year because of injuries sustained in a car accident, won his final bout Friday and posted three more victories Saturday to take his career total to 104.
Clingenpeel was a Western Valley District champion and a Group AAA state qualifier as a sophomore.
FCHS returns to action Saturday, Jan. 5 in the annual Spencer Chang Duals at Martinsville Middle School. |
