CHRISTIANSBURG -- Franklin County placed five players in double figures and scored 48 points after intermission Friday en route to an 83-65 non-district boys' varsity basketball victory over Christiansburg.
The Eagles (8-1), who were 24 hours removed from suffering their first loss of the 2012-13 campaign (see story in today's Sports section), defeated the Blue Demons (0-6), the reigning Group AA Division 4 state champions, for the second time this season.
FCHS withstood a 33-point performance by Christiansburg's Tanner Cayton, who swished four of his team's seven 3-point field goals.
The Eagles' 83 points are a season-best output.
Josh Blankenship and Ray Witcher combined for 36 points for the Eagles each with a team-best 18.
The Eagles, who are one win shy of matching last year's victory total (9), led by 11 points, 19-8, after the opening quarter and were ahead by seven, 35-28, at halftime, after the Blue Demons won the second stanza 20-16.
FCHS pushed the spread to 15 points, 55-40, after three quarters by winning the third period 20-12.
The two teams combined for 53 points in the final, eight-minute period with the Eagles winning the stanza 28-25 to secure the 18-point triumph -- their fifth win by a double-figure difference this season.
Joey Augustin finished with 13 points for the Blue Demons and six other players scored.
Devin Clements netted 13 points for the Eagles, while Ethan Adams tallied 12 and Max Harper finished with 10.
Also scoring were Bradley Parcell and Troy Lambert each with five and Hakeem Alderman with two.
Clements swished two 3-pointers for FCHS, while Witcher, Blankenship and Parcell each hit one.
