I would like to say "thank you" to Sheriff Bill Overton and the Franklin County Sheriff's Office for the excellent classes of the Citizen Sheriff's Academy. I feel I have learned a lot more, not only about how the office works, but about the whole Franklin County area itself. Even though I have known some of you for a long time, I also feel I got to know more of you even better.
I especially liked the way the classes were broken down into individual subject matter, learning about a different area each week. I hope I can help give back some of the knowledge I have learned by perhaps doing some volunteer time in different areas, at different times, that will perhaps help someone else in the county.
I would strongly recommend this class for anyone in the Franklin County area, no matter what age or background. I think there's something there for everyone to learn, as I also learned about myself in different scenarios and situations.
I think too often, many people, including myself, don't think about emergency services or law enforcement until we need you. I would like to say "thanks" to you both for being there when I was in need.
Also a special thanks to the members of the Franklin County Rescue Squad, Rocky Mount Fire Department, and Rocky Mount Police Department for the help given me on Oct. 19 during my recent illness. (Glad to say that is much better.)
My wife, Jan, and I would like to wish all of you and your families a safe and happy holiday season and very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
To all of Franklin County, during this special time of year, when we are celebrating the holidays with family and friends, give all your family some extra hugs, especially the little ones.
