The grand opening of the newest branch of the Franklin County Family YMCA on the Ferrum College campus will be held Saturday, Dec. 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The public is invited to tour the 20,000-square-foot facility at the Ferrum College Fitness Center on Wiley Drive. Visitors can enjoy exercise class demonstrations, free massages by a licensed massage therapist, and healthy refreshments.

A special joining fee will be offered that day for those interested in becoming YMCA members.

"We are thrilled to welcome the YMCA to the Ferrum College campus," said Ferrum President Jennifer Braaten. "The missions of both the Y and the college share a focus on health and well-being grounded in a strong faith base."

"This 'town and gown' partnership benefits not only Ferrum students, faculty and staff, but also the entire community," Braaten added.

The Ferrum YMCA offers state-of-the-art exercise equipment and a variety of classes and programs, as well as indoor racquetball courts and full size basketball courts, and access to the college's heated swimming pool and outdoor tennis courts. Memberships are available to the college community, as well as the general public.

"The Ferrum YMCA is proud to serve the southwest end of Franklin County with our new location and to help each of our members improve and maintain their body, mind and spirit," said Chris Rill, the Franklin County Family YMCA branch director at Ferrum College.
