Christmas cantata set at Bethlehem UMC

The Chancel Choir of Bethlehem United Methodist Church will perform a Christmas cantata on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 9 at 3 p.m.

Choir director Robert Downey and pianist Lillie McAllister will lead "A Night for Rejoicing" by Lee Dengler and Susan Naus Dengler.

The concert will feature familiar carols as well as newly-composed music. Upbeat tunes and slow, worshipful music are interwoven in eight choral movements with narration. Rose Hager is a featured soloist, and Keith Shelton is narrator.

In addition to the cantata, the Joy Bells will play "Infant Holy" with flutist Mary Spencer and "Stille, Stille, Stille." The Carillon Bells will perform "Oh Come, Oh come, Emmanuel" and "Angel's Carol." The bell choir director is Carolyn Reas.

The program is free and open to the public.

Bethlehem United Methodist Church is at 13586 Old Moneta Road, across from the Moneta - Smith Mountain Library.
