Having read the letter from Marilyn Osborne-Bach in both The Franklin News-Post and another local newspaper, I believe another voice from the area needs to be heard.
I believe our country and the American people are not the losers in the recent presidential election. I believe ours continues to be an "opportunity society" -- there is no need to "go back" to being one. We have weathered financial crises and governmental gridlock far better than any other nation on earth, and I'm grateful for that and continue to be optimistic about this country.
To say that Barack Obama is a "former community organizer who was thrust into office in 2008
with no experience or qualifications for the office" is to say that Theodore Roosevelt was only some rich guy,
Harry Truman only a failed haberdasher, Ronald Reagan only an actor.
Andrew Johnson was thrust into office on the death of Abraham Lincoln, Lyndon Johnson on the death of Kennedy. But Mr. Obama? No, ma'am. He was elected.
And, finally: the use of "we" and "us" rather than "I" and "me" in a concession speech doesn't tell me
what constitutes the character of a man. I think President Obama has demonstrated his character by his actions.
But, as Ms. Osborne-Bach says, "We'll see."
