Anyone who hasn't visited the Franklin County Veterans' Memorial Park or Lynch Park recently should stop by. With a new fence around the memorial park and a walkway between the two parks along the Pigg River, it's one of the most attractive areas in the county.
The fence has long been needed because of the steep dropoff around the memorial park, especially considering the erosion on the banks due to flooding. It's much safer now, and far more attractive.
Workers with the Town of Rocky Mount did a great job erecting the wood walkway, which fits in well with the river, woods and parks. A stroll between the parks is short and very pleasant. Children also enjoy visiting Lynch Park to play in the Rock Playground, a project of the Rocky Mount Rotary Club that was installed with funds from the club's annual Independence Day raffle a few years ago.
Both parks are kept up very well, so a visit anytime is recommended.
Please keep in mind that work on the nearby Pigg River bridge has started, so it won't be long before traffic will be limited to one lane on South Main Street at that point. This will require a lot of patience.
However, when the work is completed, the new bridge will complement the park, making the area even more beautiful. |
