A Wirtz woman was killed when her vehicle struck a school bus Tuesday morning in Roanoke County.
Donna Jean Divers, 39, was traveling along Hunting Hills Drive when she lost control of her Nissan Altima, according to Teresa Hall, public relations director for Roanoke County.
The Nissan slid sideways, crossed the center line and struck the front of a school bus that was traveling to Cave Spring Middle School, Hall said.
Five people were aboard the bus at the time of the crash -- the driver, an aide and three special needs students, Hall said.
No one on the bus was injured, but a passenger in the Nissan, Christopher Duane Garrett of Wirtz, 42, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, Hall said. Divers was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neither Divers nor Wirtz were wearing seat belts, Hall said. Roanoke County Police determined that speed was a factor in the crash.
The crash occurred about 8 a.m. Tuesday in the 5200 block of Hunting Hills Drive. |
