A Rocky Mount man pleaded guilty Thursday in Franklin County Circuit Court to aggravated sexual battery of a child under the age of 13.
Eugene Lawrence Gnann, 60, had been charged with sodomy of a child, but through an agreement with the commonwealth's attorney's office, Gnann pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of sexual battery.
The reduced charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
The incident occurred on Nov. 8, 2011, during the nighttime at a residence in Rocky Mount, according to Tim Allen, Franklin County Commonwealth's Attorney. The victim was eight years old at the time.
The child's grandmother reported the incident to the sheriff's office on Nov. 9, 2011, after the child told her what had occurred.
A presentence report will be prepared on Gnann prior to his sentencing hearing on Jan. 2 at 3:15 p.m. |
