A Rocky Mount man will serve three years in prison for selling cocaine.
Corey Lee Swanson, 26, pleaded guilty in September to two charges of distributing cocaine.
Swanson received a seven-year sentence on each of the charges last week in Franklin County Circuit Court, but 11 years were suspended on the condition that he enter the therapeutic drug community within the Virginia Department of Corrections, according to Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Robert Deatherage.
Swanson was also sentenced to four years probation and 20 years of good behavior. He is also required to obtain employment once he is released and to pay $380 in restitution to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators with the sheriff's office arranged two controlled buys of cocaine from Swanson on March 12 and March 17. Both drug buys were made on Diamond Avenue in Rocky Mount.
Swanson had been charged with four counts of cocaine distribution, but two of the charges were dismissed through a plea agreement with the commonwealth's attorney's office.
Swanson has one prior conviction for possession of a controlled substance from 2007.
