Two men and one woman from Southwest Virginia have been charged with stealing prescription medications from a Boones Mill pharmacy early Tuesday morning.
Marty Dale Smith, 31, of Raven, Shea Nicole Hess, 19, and Jeremy Scott Looney, 29, both of Richlands, are each charged with grand larceny and breaking and entering, according to Lt. Todd Maxey with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
A concerned resident noticed a suspicious vehicle at The Medicine Shoppe at 80 Main Street in Boones Mill just after 3 a.m. Tuesday, Maxey said. The resident provided a vehicle description and a partial license plate number when he reported the incident to police.
An alarm at the pharmacy also alerted the police to the break-in, Maxey added.
A blue, four-door sedan, fitting the description, was located off Crowell's Gap Road by Roanoke County police officers about 15 minutes later, Maxey said. The suspects had pulled off the road and were allegedly attempting to discard evidence.
Investigators said the suspects smashed the front-door glass to gain entry to the pharmacy, Maxey said, and took numerous containers of prescription medications.
Smith and Looney are being held without bond in the Franklin County Jail. Hess is being held on a $7,000 bond, Maxey said.
