Ferrum College received a gift of 17 Japanese maple trees this week from Luther Derby Jr., whose father -- Luther J. Derby Sr. -- was the college's president from 1943 to 1948.
Two of the trees will be planted near the college bookstore. Five more will be planted next to Franklin Hall, and 10 others will go next to the soon-to-be completed Ferrum College YMCA.
The gift includes several varieties of Japanese maples, which will add to the natural beauty of the campus, said John Carlin, director of public relations for the college. |
