A Vinton teenager was killed early Sunday morning in Boones Mill when the vehicle in which she was riding ran off the road and struck a tree.
Hannah Marie Long, 15, a front-seat passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Sgt. Rob Carpentieri with the Virginia State Police. She was not wearing a seatbelt.
The fatal accident occurred when Rufus Arthur McGill II, 19, of Roanoke was traveling east on Bethlehem Road in a 2005 Cadillac CTS and the car ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree, Carpentieri said.
McGill, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Carpentieri said.
Four other passengers, ranging in age from 19 to 20, were also transported to Roanoke Memorial for non-lifethreatening injuries.
The crash occurred about 3:30 a.m. Sunday on Route 739 (Bethlehem Road), one mile west of Route 643.
