Congratulations to Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice for pulling off two huge wins last week at the annual International Bluegrass Music Association awards show in Nashville. The band won for Album of the Year ("The Heart of a Song") and Song of the Year ("A Far Cry From Lester and Earl"). That's a huge accomplishment and an overdue win. Junior Sisk was also inducted into the Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame last month, another great honor.
The music business is tough, with competition coming from just about everywhere. Perseverance and a lot of talent are needed to succeed, as well as a willingness to spend countless hours on the road and even more hours writing, collaborating and rehearsing songs. Mr. Sisk and his band have demonstrated that it can be done.
Other band members include Billy Hawks on fiddle and vocals, Jason Tomlin on vocals and bass, Jason Davis on banjo, and Chris Davis on mandolin and vocals.
When Mr. Sisk was a young teen, he wanted a motorcycle for Christmas, but his musician father, Harry Carpenter Sisk Sr., gave him an upright bass instead. Thank goodness for that gift, as Junior Sisk soon forgot all about the motorcycle and began a career that has not only brought him many honors, it also has brought immeasurable pleasure and inspiration to his many fans.
Franklin County is chock full of musical talent, and Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice is one of the county and state's best ambassadors.
