FREDERICKSBURG -- Ferrum College men's tennis players Christopher Miller, Michael Marsh, Connor Moncure and Taylor Napier competed in the 2012 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Southeast Regionals Saturday and Sunday at the University of Mary Washington.

Ferrum's participation in this annual fall event is its first in more than 15 years.

In Saturday's opening round of singles play, Miller, a senior suffered an 8-6 loss to Mary Washington's Ryan Byrd in the B1 draw. Marsh, a junior, dropped an 8-2 decision to Matt Rosenkrantz of York (Pa.) College in the B2 draw. Moncure was defeated by Lynchburg College's Cody Compton, 8-6 in the B3 draw and Napier, a freshman, fell of Josh Johnson of Lynchburg, 8-5, the B4 draw.

In doubles play Saturday, Miller and Moncure bested Keith Beizer and Derrick Eng of Muhlenberg (Pa.) College, 8-2 in the main draw, but Marsh and Napier lost to Dylan Ander and Neil Shulman of Muhlenberg, 8-2, in their draw.

On Sunday, Miller won three singles matches in the consolation bracket: he blanked Roanoke College's Young, 6-0, 6-0, in the quarterfinals; downed Adem Owen of Virginia Wesleyan College, 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals; and in the finals, he won by default over Grove City (Pa.) College's Anthony Poselli.

Marsh defeated James Howell of Penn State-Abington, 6-4, 6-3 in the consolation quarterfinals, then he fell to Erick Belton of Bridgewater College, 6-2, 4-6, 10-4 in the semifinals.

Moncure beat Dylan Scott of Randolph-Macon College, 6-2, 6-4 in the consolation quarterfinals and Logan Sturgeon of Thiel (Pa.) College in the consolation semifinals, before losing 8-1 to Juniata (Pa.) College's Brice Morey in the consolation finals.

Napier won both of his Sunday matches by default.

In doubles, Miller and Moncure lost to eventual champions Joel Novick and Andy Pearson of Washington College, 8-5, in the quarterfinals of the main draw, while Marsh and Napier were defeated by Austin Collet and Jody Cox of Randolph-Macon in the consolation quarterfinals, 8-4.
