FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Ferrum College senior slotback/returnman Tyler Brubaker has cited for his play in the Panthers' 49-28 victory over Averett University Saturday by the USA South Athletic Conference.
Brubaker, a former Franklin County standout, has been named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Against the Cougars, Brubaker returned four punts for 89 yards, including one that he almost took back for a touchdown.
That return covered 48 yards and set up a Ferrum touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter -- a 13-yard run by Reynolds.
Brubaker averaged 22.2 yards-per-return.
Also, Brubaker rushed for 24 yards on seven carries and caught four passes for 69 yards from quarterback Tim Reynolds, including a 37-yard scoring toss with 18 seconds left in the first half.
Brubaker was 1 of 2 passing. His first toss was a six-yard TD pass to Derrick West on an option play that complete Ferrum's first possesion of the second half, an 18-play scoring march that erased 5:10 from the clock.
Brubaker's second pass came while he was playing quarterback in the fourth quarter with the Panthers leading 49-21.
Also nominated for weekly conference accolades were Reynolds (Offensive Player of the Week, football), Lynwood Pickett (Defensive Player of the Week, football), Christian Turcios (Player of the Week, men's soccer) and Kara Pegram (Player of the Week, women's soccer). |
