The Ferrum College Panther Scamper 5K run and one-mile walk returns this year as part of Ferrum's Family Day festivities on Saturday, Sept. 29.
Both the run and walk are open to the public with registration available online at www.ferrum.edu or between 8 and 8:45 a.m. the day of the event. The registration table will be located in front of Franklin Hall. The run and walk each begins at 9 a.m.
The entry fee is $15 and each participant will receive a t-shirt.
"This is a great way to start Family Day, to see the campus and for families to enjoy Ferrum's scenic setting in the mountains," said race committee chairman Dave Newcomb.
Once again, the proceeds from the race will benefit organizations that cater to the hungry. Students can enter by contributing three cans of food, which will be donated to Saint James United Methodist Church food bank, while cash proceeds will go to the Panther Packs program, which provides weekend meals for children at Ferrum Elementary School.
"We always want to reinforce the Ferrum College motto, 'Not self, but others'," said Newcombe.
The run starts on Wiley Drive near the Ferrum College YMCA and winds around the 700-acre campus. Though some of the race is on pavement, the challenging course boasts a trail section through the woods.
Trophies will be presented to the top overall male and female finishers and medals to age group winners. Following the event, refreshments and music will be provided in front of Franklin Hall. |
