Bluegrass singer-songwriter Donna Ulisse and her band The Poor Mountain Boys will perform a benefit concert Friday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Rocky Mount.
Songwriter Will Hopkins, who was born and raised in Franklin County, will be Ulisse's special musical guest.
Tickets are $15 and a portion of the proceeds from the show will benefit Helping Hands of Franklin County. Seating is limited, but tickets may be reserved by calling (540) 483-5038 or (615) 708-1950.
Bluegrass and acoustic music enthusiasts have been getting to know Ulisse's music since she burst onto the scene in 2007 with her CD "When I Look Back." Her song "I'm Calling Heaven Down" won Bluegrass Song of the Year in the 2009 Just Plain Folks Awards. Since that time, she has become one of the most played artists on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio's Bluegrass Junction. Her fourth bluegrass CD, "An Easy Climb," was released to rave reviews in 2011, leading to a recent nomination as "Songwriter of the Year" by the International Bluegrass Music Association.
