A Rocky Mount woman was the victim of a purse snatching in Tanglewood Mall in Roanoke Wednesday.
Brandon A. Ruth, 22, of Roanoke County has been charged with grand larceny in connection with the incident, according to the Roanoke County Police Department.
The 57-year-old woman was shopping in A.C. Moore Arts and Crafts at Tanglewood about 1:25 p.m. when a man took the purse from her shopping cart while she had stepped away to look at other items in the store, police said. When the woman turned around, she saw the suspect running from the store with her purse.
An employee at A.C. Moore heard the victim scream, pursued the suspect through the mall and tackled him, police said. The employee was able to recover the purse before the suspect fled to an area near South Peak Development.
Ruth was found in a wooded area behind Wendy's on Electric Road where he was detained and arrested, police said. He is being held without bond in the Roanoke County-Salem Jail.
