Anyone convicted of driving under the influence and other offenses after being involved in an accident or emergency incident will soon be paying an extra fee to Franklin County.
The county may now impose a flat $350 fee for "reimbursement of expenses and cost incurred responding to accidents and incidents relating to DUI and certain other offenses," the new ordinance says.
That ordinance was adopted by the board of supervisors after a public hearing on the issue last week.
The other offenses include reckless driving (when the offense is the proximate cause of the accident or incident), driving without a license or driving with a suspended or revoked license, or improperly leaving the scene of an accident.
When the ordinance will be implemented has not yet been decided. |
