Another of Cindy Treadway’s birthday treats was to meet Eric Estrada, who played “Ponch” on the TV series C.H.I.P.S. Meeting the actor was also on her bucket list.

Cindy Treadway, director of the Franklin County Family Resource Center, had known for some time she had no intention of having a traditional 50th birthday celebration.

Before sunrise on her birthday, July 16, Treadway got out of bed, donned her running shoes, went to the track at the Franklin County High School practice field, and ran 105 laps.

That's a marathon, 26.2 miles.

"I did a 'self-made' marathon," she said. "I had family and friends to join me for a few laps or a few miles to keep me going. I had a barstool set up with a tin cup holding 105 pennies and a fishbowl that one was transferred to each time I completed a lap."

Treadway started her marathon at 5:14 a.m. and finished at 10:28 a.m., 5 hours and 14 minutes later.

"I was sore, slow to get to my vehicle, but I could check another thing off my bucket list," she said. "I created a bucket list when I was in high school for a class and have kept it going, adding things over the years. Doing a marathon actually went on my list when I turned 40."

Treadway said she was watching the Marine Marathon in Richmond last November when she decided to do her one and only marathon on her 50th birthday.

She also got to cross off another item on her bucket list for her birthday.

Treadway met, and had her photo taken, with one of her former TV idols, Eric Estrada.

"I went to the Liberty Station for lunch in Bedford with my co-workers and met Eric Estrada, 'Ponch,' from the TV show C.H.I.P.S.," she said. "He took a picture with me and gave me a big hug."

Treadway said he was in the area for a benefit ride and filming a movie, and he happened to be in the restaurant having lunch.

"His picture use to hang on my bedroom wall, along with Sylvester Stallone, 'Rocky,' and Paul Michael Glacier, 'Starsky,'" she said.

Her original bucket list included famous people she wanted to meet, she said, and on that list were Billie Jean King, Author Ashe, Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Ilie Nastase, Sylvester Stallone, Eric Estrada and Paul Michael Glaser.

"I have now met all but Sylvester Stallone and Paul Michael Glaser," she said.

Treadway's bucket list now includes:

•Visit all 50 states (she has two to go, Washington and Oregon)

•Become a private investigator (she loved Nancy Drew books and promised herself to be a PI one day)

•See the Northern Lights

•Become a motorcycle rider (she obtained her motorcycle license for her 47th birthday but is still working on saving for a bike)

•Participate in the Pancake Challenge held in Hawaii

•Drive a "Big Rig"

•Hike Mount Everest (now on the list for her 55th birthday)

"I love life!" Treadway said. "I thank God for it, my family and friends, and those that cross my path while I am here."
