The Franklin County School Board unanimously re-elected Ed Jamison as chairman of the board Monday night at its annual meeting.
Jamison is the Blue Ridge District member.
Sarah Alexander, the Rocky Mount District member, was elected as vice chair, also unanimously.
Janet Stockton was reappointed as clerk of the school board with Cynthia Spencer serving as deputy clerk.
A special meeting to discuss candidates for the vacant superintendent position will be held on Monday, July 16 at 6 p.m. The meeting is closed to the public.
Also during Monday's meeting, the board voted to approve the new contracts for employee health and dental insurance coverage.
The contract for health insurance coverage with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield was renewed with no premium increase, according to Finance Director Lee Cheatham.
The school system pays $540 per month toward each employee's premium rate, which is shown in parentheses below.
The monthly out-of-pocket rates for employees will continue at $60 ($600) for employee only, $348 ($888) for employee and child, $731 ($1,271) for employee and spouse, and $872 ($1,412) for employee and family, Cheatham said. The deductible will remain at $500 and the out-of-pocket limit will be $3,000 per person or $6,000 per family.
The contract for dental coverage was awarded to Delta Dental with a 7-percent premium increase, Cheatham said. Delta Dental has held the school division's rates at a zero-percent increase for the past two years, he added.
Next year, the monthly rates for 10-month employees will be $35.96 for employee, $71.52 for employee and spouse, $64.10 for employee and child, $88.28 for employee and children, and $110.26 for employee and family, Cheatham said.
The rates for 12-month employees will be $29.96 for employee, $59.90 for employee and spouse, $53.42 for employee and child, $73.58 for employee and children, and $92.26 for employee and family.
Monday night, the school board also approved the gifted plan for the 2012-13 school year, the acceptable use policy for electronic equipment and the open letter to parents and citizens for 2012-13.
Crystal Naff, the Boone District school board member, was appointed to serve on the Roanoke Valley Regional Special Education Program Board, replacing P.D. Hambrick. |
