The holiday will be ushered in Tuesday night with the annual Rocky Mount Rotary Club's Independence Day Festival.
Starting at 5 p.m., the event will be held at the Franklin County High School football field. Food and drink will be available, as many vendors will be on site.
Music will be provided by two groups, Groova Scape and the Hollow Springs Band.
Vocalist Brittany Sparks fronts Groova Scape and the band plays an array of music, from Sector 9 to the Beatles.
The Callaway-based Hollow Springs Band features James Seay and his three children, Rebekah,15, Alison, 14, and Evan, 12. Hollow Springs plays its own music as well as country, bluegrass, rock, folk and even classical selections.
One of the highlights of the festival is the presentation of the annual Patriot Award, honoring a Franklin County soldier. That will occur around 7 p.m.
Members of the Rocky Mount Rotary Club are selling raffle tickets for $100 and for $1. Three cash prizes will be given away during the festival for the $100 ticketholders. First place is $5,000, second place is $3,000 and third place is $2,000.
Prizes will also be given away to holders of the $1 raffle tickets. Those prizes include a gas grill, gift cards, a gift certificate from Haywood's Jewelry, a watch from Carter's Jewelry and a rod and reel combo from Franklin Outdoors.
Club members will be selling tickets at the festival up to the time winners will be drawn and announced.
Proceeds from this year's raffle will benefit the Southern Virginia Child Advocacy Center (CASA), Boy Scouts, Children's Miracle Network and the YMCA.
Activities will be available for children during the evening and, of course, the celebration will be topped off by a fireworks show, which will start right after dark.
