Boones Mill Council adopts $175,000 budget

Boones Mill Town Council voted unanimously Thursday night to adopt a general fund budget of $175,040 for fiscal year 2012-13.

The fiscal year begins July 1 and ends June 30, 2013.

In the budget, town council included a 14-cent tax rate per $100 of assessed value of real estate.

The current real estate tax rate is 10 cents per $100 of assessed value.

The 14-cent real estate tax and personal property taxes are estimated to generate about $38,700 in revenue.

The proposed budget also includes pay raises for the town manager/police chief and the town clerk/treasurer. The town manager/police chief's annual salary will increase to $42,690 from the current salary of $40,650.

The town clerk's annual salary will increase to $14,500 from the current salary of $13,800.

In addition to the $42,690 salary for town manager and police chief, Lynn Frith, who is also the town's utility manager, will receive an additional $25,260 for that position.

Also budgeted is $7,700 for the salaries of town council members and the mayor, an increase from the current budget amount of $6,500.

Proposed general fund expenditures for the 2012-13 budget include the following categories: American Electric Power, $8,500; telephone company, $3,850; auto decals, $650; annual audit, $4,500; fire programs, $8,000; town hall heat and repairs, $650; assistant clerk, $1,500; part-time worker, $3,500; payroll taxes, $1,800; water/sewer payroll tax, $3,600; fees and contributions, $600; office supplies, $5,500; postage, $200; advertising, $400; insurance, $8,000; attorney fees, $5,000; employee health insurance, $13,000; miscellaneous, $455; North American Housing loan payment, $32,300; and police department expenditures, $51,265.

Proposed water and sewer fund expenditures total $132,750.
