The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is warning residents and businesses not to provide credit card information to telephone solicitors.
Several local businesses have been targeted recently by a caller who claims to be an advertising agent raising funds for the Franklin County 911 Communications Center, according to Capt. Harry Clingenpeel.
The caller asks for credit card donations that he says will be used to print calendars and refrigerator magnets with the proceeds benefiting the 911 center, said Sgt. Phillip Young.
"Neither the sheriff's office nor the communications center conducts phone solicitations for fundraising efforts," Clingenpeel said. "If you or your business receives a phone call in reference to a phone solicitation for the 911 communications center, please do not give out any credit card or bank account information."
Anyone who is contacted should call Clingenpeel at 483-6616. |
