Students in the Pre-K class at Snow Creek Elementary School joined students at Boones Mill Elementary to make valentines for veterans at the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital in Salem.
Judy Palmer, the Pre-K teacher at Snow Creek, said that this is one of many ways that the schools work together to serve the community and teach the children the gift of giving.
"While doing this project, (the students) practiced the skill of writing (their) first name as well," Palmer said.
Writing the first name is Virginia Literacy Foundation's block standards for 4-year-old children, she added.
Pre-K standards are foundation blocks, while the Standards of Learning are the standards for the upper grades. |
