Cooper Brown, a Franklin County native, has joined the Franklin County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office as an assistant prosecutor.
Brown, 28, is the son of Colby and Mandy Brown of Ferrum. His father is an attorney in Rocky Mount, and his mother is a teacher at Ferrum Elementary School.
Cooper Brown is a 2001 graduate of Franklin County High School. He graduated from Lynchburg College in 2005, majoring in English.
Brown received his law degree from the University of Wyoming in 2010.
Brown's first day on the job in the commonwealth's attorney's office was May 16.
The new assistant commonwealth's attorney said he applied for the job as a prosecutor because he believes he can learn a lot about the law from Commonwealth's Attorney Cliff Hapgood and Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Tim Allen.
"I also feel by working in this office I will have an opportunity to improve our county," Brown said.
Brown did an internship in the Franklin County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office after his second year of law school.
Brown's interest in criminal law stems from the influence of a law professor he had during law school, he said.
During his first week on the job, Brown said he has been watching and listening closely and doing some prep work for Franklin County General District Court.
Brown said his hobbies are outdoor activities and reading. |
